1. **Open in Subclip first**
Import HEVC files in [Subclip Home Player](https://subclip.app/home), then convert for target devices when needed.

2. **Desktop players by OS**
- **Windows:** Movies & TV with HEVC extensions, VLC, PotPlayer
- **macOS:** QuickTime Player (newer macOS), VLC, IINA
- **Linux:** VLC/mpv builds with HEVC decode support
- **Chromebook:** hardware/OS support varies; browser support is limited
- **Other OS:** hardware-decoding media centers and modern TVs

3. **Mobile devices**
- **iOS:** Photos/Files supports HEVC broadly on modern devices
- **Android:** support depends on chipset/player; VLC and MX Player are common options
- **Windows phones (legacy):** generally limited support

4. **Convert for wider compatibility**
[HEVC to MP4](/tools/convert-video-format/hevc-to-mp4), [MP4 to HEVC](/tools/convert-video-format/mp4-to-hevc).
